About Patricia
Patricia Viel is a Vancouver artist specialising in people portraits, landscapes and home portraits. Working from her Kitsilano studio, Viel paints with oils. Many of her paintings are done from supplied photographs.
Viel is an award-winning jewelry designer who in recent years has focused on painting.
“My favourite subjects are children and family, friends and neighbours.” she says.
“I started working from photos because they capture special moments that can’t be posed. Things like kids playing in the water or goofing around.”
Her interpretations of everyday scenes lend them a lasting quality which photos sometimes don’t.
Viel is also an accomplished landscape artist. As a mother of a young daughter, she has limited time for painting a pleine air. As a result, she packs her camera and captures scenes for future work and reference.
“Living on the west coast and our trips to visit family in Austria have given me more subjects for my work than I will probably ever be able to paint,” she says.
Viel is also well known for her home portraits.
“People like to see their home as a work of art. Many of us put a lot of effort into how our houses and gardens look. Having a painting capture that is unique and treasured.”
Patrica Viel welcomes painting commissions of any kind. While the focus of her work is people, home portraits and landscapes, she has been painting some still life images recently and there are several pet portraits in her portfolio as well.
