FAQ
What’s the process? How do you work?
We’ll meet to discuss your photo and have a very thorough discussion of what kind of painting you’d like. We’ll discuss why this photo is important and what you’d like to see in a painted interpretation of it. We’ll discuss the size, the number of figures, and the colour palette. From the samples of my work you’ll get a sense of my style. We’ll discuss the kind of line and texture that could be used in the painting and what direction you’d like me to take.
How long does it take to do a painting from a supplied photograph?
From when we first meet to delivery of the final art takes about four to six weeks.
What are your rates? Do you require a deposit?
My complete rates are listed on the Rates page. All projects require a non-refundable, 25 per cent deposit.
Can I check in on the progress as you are working on the painting?
No. A work in progress rarely looks anything like the finished painting.
What if I don’t like the final work?
Our initial discussion is going to be as complete as possible. If you’re comfortable with my work, the results of your painting should be fine! However, if you don’t want it, there is no additional charge to your deposit.
Can you combine photos of several people into one painting?
Sometimes. It depends on a number of things like lighting and angles. Bring your images and we can discuss the possibilities!
Do you make black and white paintings from colour photos?
Yes.
Do you make colour paintings from black and white photos?
Yes.
For home portraits do you prefer multiple views?
Yes, seeing the house from a variety of angles helps me understand the character and the architecture better.
Do you do framing?
No. My paintings look fine unframed since they are mounted on a wood frame which is about 1.5 inches deep. If you want a frame, I’ll gladly recommend some reliable suppliers.
